The XXXVII Annual Symposium of the International Association for Social Work with Groups

Please join us in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, June 4-7, 2015, at the XXXVII Annual Symposium of the International Association for Social Work with Groups, co-sponsored by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Social Work and North Carolina State University Department of Social Work. We welcome students, faculty, agency administrators, practitioners of various disciplines, and community workers and developers who utilize the group modality to submit papers, workshops, and posters.

Our theme this year is "GROUP WORK: CREATING SPACE FOR ALL VOICES". With its roots in the Settlement House movement, group work has proudly embraced the tradition of creating a space for all voices. Group workers today continue to advance this tradition. With a focus on mutual aid, empowerment, respect for diversity, equal participation, inclusion, and non-judgmental acceptance, group workers deter oppression by widening the circle to create a space for all voices.

Proposals are welcomed on all aspects of group work. Topics that relate to diversity, oppression, and widening the circle to create a space for all voices are especially welcomed.

  • Papers are 20-30 minute didactic and discussion-oriented presentations
  • Posters are visual presentations displayed at designated times during the Symposium
  • Workshops are 60 minute experiential presentations
